We are very excited to announce that SSJ’s latest venture in Portsmouth ‘Café in the Park’ is now open!
The aim of the café is to provide employment and training opportunities to local people with histories of homelessness and substance misuse.
SSJ currently provide the majority of substance misuse services in Portsmouth, both through treatment services and the provision of specialist housing, and work with about 1000 people at any one time in the City.
Our aim is to create better chances for successful recovery for our services users, which has wider social benefits in terms of reduced burden on statutory and other services, better health outcomes and reduced crime. Studies have shown that employment has a significant impact on successful recovery, which would benefit the local people who are engaged in our programmes.
We are working with the Beanbag Café Community Interest Company, a social enterprise providing advice and training to organisations seeking to establish community cafes.
The café itself has been refurbished by Portsmouth City Council and has been designed along the shabby chic style, with comfortable chairs and sofas inside and an attractive outdoor courtyard overlooking the beautiful Victoria Park, right in the heart of Portsmouth city centre.
What’s on offer?
