Charity Talk

Last night (18/07/12) David Powell (manager of Jamie’s Computers) and I went to do a charity talk for the Valley Park Ladies based in Chandler’s Ford.

Some 9 months prior to this event one of the Valley Park Ladies had come into Jamie’s to recycle her old computer. Mrs Goold had found us on the internet but knew very little about Jamie’s and nothing at all about the Society of St James.

When Mrs Goold came into Jamie’s she was surprised by the size of the operation and how professional it all was. David talked to her about the work that we do and how the data would be destroyed on her computer.

Fascinated by the way in which we work with our service user, the wider organisation and the training opportunities we offer Mrs Goold asked whether we would come and do a charity talk for the group that she was a member of.

As is the way of the world, 9 months raced by and the evening of the charity talk was upon us. David and I arrived at the meeting place early and were a little worried that nobody was coming.

How wrong we could be.

The group was very well attended and the meeting room was full. There were probably around 40 ladies in attendance and they were a fantastic audience. Everyone was welcoming towards us and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the charity talk. We had many great questions asked at the end of the charity talk and nearly everyone wanted to find out more.

I would like to say a big thank you to the Valley Park Ladies for inviting us along and for the donation towards our charity.

If you are a member of a community group or a business that would like to find out more about the Society of St James please get in touch and we will happily come and do a charity talk for you.
