Pilates for Portsmouth

ilates for PortsmouthSSJ’s Community Day Rehab Service in Portsmouth, for vulnerable adults with substance or alcohol problems, recently offered ‘one off’ “Pilates for Portsmouth” sessions. They were so popular with our clients that we ran a small appeal to fund a 12-week course.

These further sessions had such a great impact on the people accessing Day Rehab that we would now like to offer an additional two, 12-week, Pilates Course, free of charge, to everyone at the service.

Pilates was developed to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and well-being.

Not only is it great exercise, but it also fits well with the ethos of Community Day Rehab, helping clients to relax, focus on the ‘here and now’ and achieve a mental state of awareness, focus and openness.

We spoke to a few people currently attending Pilates for Portsmouth, they told us:

‘I enjoy Pilates. It’s good for fitness, stretching, and the mind. Before I came to Day Rehab, I didn’t know anything about it. When I came across Pilates I liked it straight away. I think the instructor is very professional. She makes us feel nice, relaxed and comfortable throughout the session. I get alot out of taking the class.’ – Geoffrey

‘I was very apprehensive when I heard we would be having Pilates classes, because I have various health issues. In the first class I sat on the chair and the teacher adapted the exercises to something I was capable of. This was extremely helpful and boosted my confidence to try and participate more in the next class. I think Pilates will be most helpful towards my recovery because it gives my mind and body something else to concentrate on. It will be great for my health and overall well-being’ – Dee

However, with no available funds to pay for further sessions, SSJ is turning to our kind supporters to enable us to deliver weekly Pilates sessions, over two 12-week periods. There will be a maximum of ten clients per session, which are delivered by an award-winning, professional instructor, Ann-Maree, of All-Mobile Pilates.

It costs £12.50 to provide a Pilates session.  We need to raise a total of £450 in order to deliver three, 12 week courses.

Could you help donate a Pilate’s session with a gift of £12.50 and help others like Geoffrey, Dee & Jamie?  You can make a donation to this appeal here.

Update 01/04/17 – We are so pleased to announce this appeal has now hit it’s target.  We are very grateful for all the donations and excited to be able to put on these three beneficial classes for our service users at Day Rehab in Portsmouth.

If you would like to make a donation towards further sports and leisure interventions at our projects, please us the contact form below. Thank You
