Give a Dinner at Christmas!

Please ‘Give a Dinner’ this Christmas and make a real difference to adults and young people facing homelessness.
Many people who access SSJ’s services are not just affected by homelessness. They are also battling other complex problems such as mental health issues, addiction and long term unemployment. These issues often damage relationships with friends and family, leaving them with virtually no support network, social isolation and feelings of hopelessness.
23 year old Karmen (pictured), who is being supported by our hostel in Southampton for young people, told us:
“Now I’m living at SSJ’s All Saints Hostel where I have staff to support me. For the first time in years I feel like I’ve actually got a home, where I’m safe and people care about me. I’m looking forward to Christmas this year… for once I won’t be spending it alone.”
SSJ believes that every adult and young person accessing its services deserves to benefit from supportive company and a traditional Christmas meal in a warm and safe environment. To provide this though, we are urgently asking for your help. Our frontline staff teams have calculated that it costs £12 to give someone struggling this Christmas a full roast dinner with all the trimmings.
Could you Give a Dinner to people who are homeless this Christmas?
When you support our Christmas ‘Give A Dinner’ appeal, it’s clear that you are not just providing someone with a plate of food. This simple gesture can give a vital boost to someone’s emotional and psychological wellbeing over the festive period, making them feel less alone and a greater part of their community.
Del, who lives in one of our residential projects, said:
“Christmas was brilliant in 2015 and it’s really nice that people think of us! It was great to have a warm bed for a week and not be on the streets, and I was given some lovely warm clothing and a brand new hat and gloves”.
Last year we were overwhelmed by the support that our appeal attracted and as you can see, a good time was had by all of the people we support in our houses and hostels!
This Year, 2016
It costs us £12 to give someone a Christmas meal, so please make someone’s day special by donating £12 to buy them a Christmas dinner this year?
We know that some of you like to do more, lots of you have been in touch to ask what else you can do or give and we are really grateful for that. It would be wonderful if you felt able to share our appeal using Facebook or Twitter (with the hashtag #GiveaDinner).
If you are looking for a practical way to get involved this Christmas, have a look at our Shoebox Appeal where a small box can have a huge impact on someone facing homelessness this season.
* Please note, any surplus donations received in support of this appeal will be used by SSJ to help contribute to the charity’s costs tackling homelessness across Hampshire.
