The Society of St James manages a range of specialist services that offer tailored support to certain groups of people. We have specialist housing that caters for chronic heavy drinkers, those with mental health issues, and elderly homeless people, plus a handyperson project to help provide property maintenance to older vulnerable people in Southampton.
All of these services offer a high level of support that is needed by the users of these projects. The complexity of the issues that these service users have means that they need additional expert support that general housing projects cannot provide.
“43% of older homeless people have 4 or more additional problems including substance misuse issues, mental health conditions, behavioural problems and physical health conditions”
