The Portsmouth Substance Misuse Accommodation Service provides accommodation for over 80 people in a number of properties in Portsmouth. The service supports, in varying degrees, people who are currently attempting to tackle their substance misuse or who have recently progressed to a drug and/or alcohol free lifestyle.
We provide three levels of support and accommodation within this service. There is accommodation, with intensive support, for those who intend to move to a drug and/or alcohol free lifestyle but who are currently using substances. There is accommodation, with intensive support, for people who have tackled their substance misuse and are living drug-free. We also run a floating support service for people with less intensive needs, enabling them to move-on towards maintaining their own tenancy, without the need of intervention from other agencies.
The service houses people in a range of properties; from hostel accommodation with single bedrooms and shared bathroom and kitchen facilities to self-contained flats. The service encourages people to engage with support and treatment, to take responsibility for their own choices and make changes where necessary to help them achieve their long-term goal of returning to, and maintaining, their own independent accommodation. Person-centred support planning and individual keyworking are at the heart of the service. The staff team are committed to supporting each person individually, helping them to gain and improve essential skills.
The people we support are from diverse backgrounds and everyone has a story to tell of their journey: what happened that led them to take a wrong turn. Our commitment is to help them find the right direction again and support them to make the changes they have identified to enable them to overcome their dependencies and live a successful and fulfilling life in the future.
We work in partnership with First Wessex and Two Saints, the landlords for some of the properties within the service and we are funded by the Portsmouth Supporting People team.
