What is Sleep Out?

Sleep Out is an annual, national event, fundraising for homeless and disadvantaged young people in the UK.

As part of the End Youth Homelessness movement, The Society of St James is partnering with organisations across the country who are supporting some of the most vulnerable young people in our society.

Sleep Out aims to bring a national voice to the UK’s most pressing social issues by hosting events across the country that will bring you a just a tiny step closer to the reality experienced by homeless and vulnerable young people – like Sarah.

From Edinburgh to Southampton, thousands of people will be sleeping out, under the stars, to raise funds and awareness for homeless and disadvantaged young people in the UK.  Will you be one of them?

You can read stories from young people who’ve benefited from our services over on our news.  Stories from people like Joe, who have now left youth homelessness behind- moving-on to his own accommodation and employment.

What can I expect?

If you’d like to hear what SleepOut feels like from a participant’s view, check out Lee’s story or this post from HoMed a local student group who support SSJ.

How Do I get Involved?

Anyone can get involved with Sleep Out!  Individuals, groups and business are all encouraged to come along and have fun, raising some funds to help us support young people facing homelessness, throughout Hampshire.  We ask everyone involved to aim to raise £250 per person or £1000 for each 5 team members.

At our big event we can only have participants who are over 18, but if you are from a group of young people who want to get involved- let us know and we will help you to run your own mini-SleepOut at the same time!

N.B. Whilst Sleep Out is a fundraising event designed to raise awareness of homelessness and the funds to help us tackle it, it does not claim to replicate homelessness.
